Real Conference in Virtual Environment

The purpose of this project is to give users access to Arquivo Distrital do Porto services through the Internet at any hour.

The project aims the creation of a reference and virtual reading room having the same functions as given by the rooms existing presently in the archives facilities. The user may have access 24 hours a day and during the whole week to the documents and to all services in general provided by archives and to the new possibilities that the computing and information technologies offer. It is no longer simply the question of searching the database for archival description but also being able to reserve documents for consultation, requesting researches and reproductions, certified or not, on paper or on a digital file, … and not having to wait for the post to arrive!
The project foresees the complete reformulation of Arquivo Distrital do Porto site on the Internet as well as the development of an intranet, both “instruments” that will support the virtual room. Thanks to this project, the users that come personally to ADP office will have access to documents and services in the same environment as through ADP intranet.

Digitisation of parochial records

Arquivo Distrital do Porto has available for the consultation on line digital reproduction of records emanating from some parishes as from 1860.
ADP reinforced the flow of digital images of documents, accessible through the results of the search carried out by the user. This increase of the offer through the Internet applies mainly to the parochial registers (baptisms, marriages and deaths) and took place during 2007.
With a click, you may choose searching only the documents having already their own reproduction available.
This project aims the digitisation and availability online of all parochial registers of Porto Region.
